Depot Update
The work taking place to restore Richmond’s Depot reflects many of the other things that happen here: from the outside there is little apparent movement and it seems generally quiet. But once I look inside the door I find that walls and half of the second floor has vanished. I am told that seventeen 40-yard containers of debris have been removed already. All the work to this point is being done by hand by two crews; Crane Inc. is doing all the heavy lifting of material to the dumpsters, and Construction Resources is repairing all the exterior brick and terra cotta.
After thirty years of neglect, it is an amazing achievement. It seems like every day brings more light and glimpses of new possibilities.
